Welcome to the CRIMSOC Penology Network, the penology research network which provides a resource and forum for academics, researchers and practitioners working in the areas of prison studies, penology, alternatives to prison and penal reform. This site will provide news, information and debates on the subject of imprisonment and alternatives to prison.

This section of the site is edited by Dr. Liam Leonard, who was guest editor for the special issue of the Prison Journal on Irish Prisons. Dr. Leonard has also worked as a lecturer in Human Rights, Penology, Criminology and Sociology on the Irish Custodial Care programme, devising and delivering many of the modules on Ireland's only dedicated prison training programme.
